List of spring surface treatment solutions
Spring surface treatment, not only to prevent corrosion, but also to avoid hydrogen embrittlement. The following are common solutions:
1. Electroplating (decoration + anti-corrosion)
Galvanized (blue and white zinc/color zinc/black zinc): the most cost-effective. Salt spray can reach 48-120 hours. Uses: general mechanical springs, automotive parts springs.
Nickel plating: good decoration, excellent corrosion resistance. Use: electronic equipment visible spring, battery spring.
Chrome plating: high hardness, wear resistance. Use: high wear environment spring.
2. Dacromet/Chromium-free Dacromet (high corrosion resistance and no hydrogen embrittlement)
Features: No risk of hydrogen embrittlement, salt spray resistance up to 480-1000 hours, high temperature resistance.
Purpose: Automobile key springs, wind power springs, high-speed rail fastener springs. Recommend the preferred alternative to electroplating.
3. Electroless nickel plating (uniform coverage)
Characteristics: uniform coating, full coverage of complex shapes, high hardness.
Purpose: Precision electronic spring, miniature spring with complex shape.
4. Electrophoretic coating
Features: Color optional (black, gray, etc.), uniform coating, good anti-corrosion.
Purpose: Exposed springs with high appearance requirements, visible springs for automobiles.
5. Passivation treatment (for stainless steel springs)
Features: After pickling and passivation, a dense oxide film is formed, and the corrosion resistance is improved several times without changing the size.
Purpose: All stainless steel springs must be treated before leaving the factory.
6. Dehydrogenation treatment (all electroplated springs must be done)
Characteristics: within 2 hours after electroplating, bake at 200 ° C for 4-8 hours to remove hydrogen atoms.
