Stamping thin metal without warping is a geometry problem, not just a force problem. Hooks and clasps see high annual volumes. Our dies are built for 2–5 million hits before regrinding. We use CNC wire-cut inserts for the cutting edges and apply a titanium nitride coating on forming punches. This means your per-piece price does not drift after the first year—we quote a fixed cost per thousand for the life of the die. Tooling maintenance is scheduled every 200,000 strokes, and we keep a spare set of critical punch inserts in-house to avoid downtime.
Raw stamping leaves a burr on the break edge. For user-facing hooks and clasps—think backpack buckles or cabinet latches—that burr is unacceptable. We also test hook opening force with a digital pull gauge—for example, a latch must open at 5.0 N ± 0.5 N and close without play. Do not leave bend radius to us. For a 90° hook in 1.0 mm 301 stainless, the minimum inside radius is 0.5 mm—anything sharper causes micro-cracks. Specify the grain direction if the hook takes side loads; we roll the coil so grains run along the stress axis. Also, state whether the latch is spring-loaded or gravity-driven—this changes the temper requirement.
