This is a ready-to-spec family of stamped brackets and clips, all zinc plated for corrosion resistance (salt spray tested to 72 hours minimum). You get flatness within 0.05 mm and hole-to-hole tolerances at ±0.05 mm, with burr height controlled under 0.05 mm on every edge. Typical lead time is 15 days from drawing approval to first article, and our in-house hardness range for spring steel clips is 40–45 HRC after heat treatment.
Thin material (0.5–3.0 mm) wants to warp. We counter that with progressive dies running on 80-ton high-speed presses (250 SPM), followed by a straightening pass on every strip. Our die maintenance schedule is every 50,000 strokes — not “when it breaks.” That keeps dimensional drift below 0.03 mm across a production run. For clips with spring-back issues, we use coining steps in the die rather than trying to bend after stamping.
Three base metals cover 95% of our orders: SPCC cold-rolled steel (for general brackets), SUS301 stainless (for corrosive or high-temp environments), and SK5 spring steel (for clips that must snap back 1 million cycles). Zinc plating is applied after heat treatment — never before — because plating baths at 45°C can temper martensite if done backwards. For SK5, we oil-quench at 830°C, temper at 260°C for 45 minutes, then plate to a thickness of 8–12 µm.
No random sampling. Every lot gets a 5-point check: (1) CMM verification of 3 critical hole positions per part, (2) Rockwell hardness test on 2 sample clips per batch, (3) salt spray test on one plated sample per production day, (4) burr height gauge on 10 random pieces, (5) flatness check on a granite surface plate. Results are shipped with the packing list — you don’t have to ask for them.
Our standard is trivalent clear or blue zinc, 8–12 µm, per ASTM B633. It gives 72 hours to white rust and 240 hours to red rust in neutral salt spray. We avoid hexavalent chromate because it’s banned under RoHS and REACH — if your application needs automotive-grade (e.g., 120 hours white rust), we can add a sealer or go to zinc-nickel alloy (12–20 µm) at a 5% cost increase.
Clips in this collection are either formed from SK5 or from 65Mn (manganese spring steel). The difference is fatigue life: 65Mn gives 1 million cycles at 70% of yield stress; SK5 gives 1.5 million. We stress-relieve after forming at 200°C for 30 minutes — this removes residual stress from the bending operation, which is what actually causes premature cracking. If you need a specific cycle count, tell us; we’ll select the grade and temper accordingly.
You can order 50 pieces to test fitment — we do that for every new customer. Prototype parts (up to 200 pieces) are run on a single-station die, which costs $80–$200 tooling per part geometry. Production runs (over 1,000 pieces) use progressive dies with a one-time engineering charge of $1,200–$3,500, amortized into your unit price. If you keep the same design for 12 months, we refund 50% of that tooling charge on your 5th order.
