We produce contact springs from 0.10 mm to 3.00 mm wire diameter. Coil geometry options include closed ends, ground ends, open ends, and double-closed ends. We can also make conical springs for recessed battery contacts, or barrel-shaped springs for side-terminal cells. Maximum outside diameter is 25 mm, maximum free length is 100 mm. If you need a spring that fits a 5 mm deep pocket in a plastic holder, we can coil a conical spring with a 4.8 mm OD at the base and 3.5 mm OD at the tip — no extra tooling charge.
Bare music wire gives Ra 0.8 µm, which is fine for dry contacts. But if your battery holder operates in a vibrating environment, we recommend nickel plating (2–5 µm) or gold flash (0.5–1 µm) to reduce contact resistance below 50 mΩ. We also offer passivation for stainless springs to remove free iron and prevent rust spots. All plating is done in-house with a barrel process, so we control thickness uniformly across the entire spring — no bare spots on the coil ends.
Every production lot goes through a 3-step inspection. First, we measure free length, OD, and wire diameter on 5% of parts using a calibrated optical comparator. Second, we test spring rate on a compression tester at 3 different heights — not just one point. Standard springs have open ends, which can scratch your PCB pads. We offer closed-ground ends for flat seating, or closed-not-ground ends for tighter tolerances. For springs that need to be spot-welded to a nickel strip, we can supply with a 90° bent leg — we grind the tip flat to improve weld consistency. We also make extended hook ends for battery holders that require a latching mechanism. Tell us your assembly method (press-fit, glue, weld, or screw) and we will adjust the end geometry accordingly.
Springs are shipped in anti-static bags with VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) paper inside. For stainless or plated springs, we use neutral pH paper to avoid tarnishing.
