The ER32 collet chuck works by compressing a slotted collet inward when you tighten the nut with the spanner wrench. The collet’s eight slits collapse evenly around the tool shank, centering it on the chuck’s internal 8° taper. Because the taper is ground in one setup with the chuck’s outer diameter, the runout stays within 0.005 mm TIR at 3× the chuck diameter from the nose. This is how you hold a 10 mm end mill and get a 0.01 mm slot width, cut after cut.
We machine the collet pocket and the external locating diameter in the same CNC turning operation, then finish grind both surfaces on a cylindrical grinder with a 0.0005 mm resolution. That eliminates stack-up error from separate setups. The spanner wrench is a two-pin design, machined from 45# steel, hardened to 40–45 HRC, so it won’t deform under 50 N·m of tightening torque.
The chuck body is 20CrMnTi, a case-hardening steel commonly used for gears and heavy-duty toolholders. We carburize it to a case depth of 0.8–1.2 mm, reaching 58–60 HRC on the surface while the core stays at 35–40 HRC for toughness. This combination resists indentation from the collet’s pressure and absorbs shock from interrupted cuts.
The collet nut is 40CrMo, quenched and tempered to 28–32 HRC, then nitrided on the thread flanks to 600 HV. This prevents thread galling when you tighten the spanner wrench repeatedly. The spanner wrench itself is 45# steel, induction hardened on the pin tips. We do not use castings or forgings for this product—everything starts as solid round bar, machined to net shape.
After CNC turning, we grind three critical surfaces: the internal 8° taper, the outer locating diameter, and the rear drive face. The taper is ground to within 0.003 mm of the theoretical profile, and the surface finish on the taper is Ra 0.2 µm. This is the surface that actually contacts the collet, so any roughness here transfers directly to your tool runout.
The outer diameter, typically 50 mm for ER32, is ground to h6 tolerance (−0.016 / −0.006 mm). This fits standard BT30, BT40, or HSK toolholders with a press fit. The rear face is ground flat to 0.005 mm to ensure the chuck seats square against the spindle. All other external surfaces are turned to Ra 1.6 µm, which is clean enough for chip shedding and prevents rust accumulation.

Every chuck goes through a 6-point inspection protocol in our QC lab, not a random sample. We measure taper angle with a sine bar and dial indicator, runout with a 0.001 mm resolution dial gauge on a precision mandrel, and hardness on a Rockwell tester at three points on the body. The collet nut thread is checked with a go/no-go plug gauge.
We also test the assembled chuck with a standard ER32 collet and a 10 mm test bar. The bar is inserted, tightened with the spanner wrench to 50 N·m, and runout is recorded at the nose and at 50 mm from the nose. These numbers are printed on a test certificate that ships with each unit. If you need a full material certificate or a CMM report, we include that at no extra cost.
Each chuck is cleaned in a solvent bath, coated with anti-rust oil, and wrapped in VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) paper. It goes into a rigid foam insert inside a double-wall carton. The spanner wrench is packed in the same box, with a foam cutout to prevent movement during transit. For orders over 10 units, we use a wooden crate with steel strapping.
We ship via DHL, FedEx, or UPS for small orders—typical transit is 3–5 days to the US, EU, or Australia. For bulk orders, we use sea freight from Shenzhen port, with a 20-day transit to Los Angeles or Rotterdam. While the standard ER32 chuck has a 50 mm outer diameter and a plain cylindrical rear end, we can machine it to fit your specific spindle. Common options include a BT40 or BT30 taper shank, an HSK63A hollow taper shank, or a straight shank with a threaded drawbar hole. We also make custom lengths—for example, a 120 mm long version for deep reach applications.
If you need a different collet size, we manufacture ER16, ER20, ER25, and ER40 versions with the same tolerances. The spanner wrench can be made with a longer handle for higher torque, or with a flat wrench surface instead of pins.
