We stock 304 and 301 stainless steel, C17200 beryllium copper, phosphor bronze (C5210), and SPCC/SECC cold-rolled steel. For shrapnel that must survive high temperatures or repeated bending, we recommend 301 stainless in full-hard temper (HV 480–520). Beryllium copper offers HV 360–420 with excellent conductivity. If you need a softer touch, we anneal after stamping to HV 200–250. Raw material thickness ranges from 0.05 mm to 6.0 mm, with a maximum part size of 500 mm × 300 mm.
Stamping alone is rarely enough for a finished shrapnel. We perform stress-relief annealing in a vacuum furnace to prevent springback drift. For surface finish, we offer nickel plating (2–5 µm), gold flash (0.5–1 µm), and tin plating for solderability. Our in-house wire EDM and CNC milling handle any post-stamping features like slots or holes that cannot be punched in one pass. We also offer coining to flatten critical surfaces to a flatness of 0.02 mm over 10 mm length.
For progressive dies, we use tungsten carbide inserts on wear zones—this gives 10–15 million strokes before resharpening. For short-run prototypes, we use a simplified punch-and-die set with a tooling cost of $800–$1,500 and a lead time of 5–7 days. This is the fastest way to test your shrapnel design without committing to a full production die. When you are ready for mass production, we amortize the die cost into the unit price—no upfront tooling charge for orders above 100,000 pieces.
Every lot gets a first-article inspection (FAI) before production runs. We check 4 points on every shrapnel: material thickness, bend angle, surface roughness (Ra 0.4–0.8 µm), and contact force (measured with a load cell). In-process checks happen every 30 minutes on the press line. We provide a full dimensional report in PDF or Excel format with each shipment. Parts are packed in anti-rust VCI paper and then placed in corrugated boxes or custom trays to prevent bending during transit. Standard export packing takes 24 hours after QC. Here is the honest pricing structure: tooling cost is separate from piece price. For a simple shrapnel (2 bends, 1 hole), the piece price is $0.02–$0.08 at 50,000 pieces. At 500,000 pieces, it drops to $0.01–$0.03. We do not enforce an MOQ—you can order 100 pieces for testing at a slightly higher unit price.
