How a Slotted Collet Locks Round Bar Stock Without Distortion

The collet body is precision ground with three or six longitudinal slots, cut by wire EDM after heat treatment. These slots allow the collet to contract radially when the chuck taper pulls it backward, gripping the bar with even force around the full circumference. Surface Finish Options for Difficult Materials
