Why Runout of 0.02 mm Keeps Your LED Junction Temperature Stable

Runout is the hidden killer of LED bulb performance. If the heatsink base wobbles more than 0.02 mm relative to the threaded socket, the thermal interface material compresses unevenly — hot spots develop, and the die temperature rises by 8–12°C. Every Round LED Bulb Heatsink we machine is turned between centers on a 5-axis CNC lathe, not a chuck, so the bore, the fin tips, and the NPT thread all reference the same axis. Fin Geometry We Actually Machine: Depth, Pitch, and Draft Angles

We machine fins from 1.0 mm to 2.5 mm pitch, with a depth-to-width ratio up to 8:1 using a 0.8 mm carbide end mill. The draft angle is 1.5° on the inner fins and 2° on the outer, so the part releases from the die without galling. If you need a press-fit of a metal collar, we leave a 0.1 mm interference zone on the outer diameter and polish it to Ra 0.8 µm.
