Project Background & Challenge
A race engineering team was developing lightweight chassis and powertrain parts for a prototype: TC4 titanium rods (turn-mill composite, tolerance ±0.01mm) and 7075-T6 aluminum suspension brackets (hole positions ±0.005mm, anodized), 80 pieces each for the first batch, iterating by season. They had been machining in Europe - high piece prices, time-zone friction, and a month or more per iteration.
The challenges: titanium runs hot and wears tools fast, so dimensional consistency is hard to hold; 7075 thin-wall brackets are clamping-sensitive; and small-batch iteration demands a full first-article check every round - no "good enough this round, fix it next round" mentality.
