Runout on the main mounting bore is the enemy. If the bore centerline wobbles relative to the mounting face, your antenna tilts, and beam pattern distorts. We achieve 0.01mm total indicated runout (TIR) on the primary bore by machining the bracket in one setup on a 4-axis mill. We never flip the part between the bore and the face.
Our CNC cell uses 10,000-rpm spindles with hydraulic toolholders to minimize deflection. For the critical bore, we use a finish pass with a 0.2mm depth of cut at 0.05mm/rev feed. This produces a consistent 0.8µm Ra finish inside the bore, which also helps with proper torque of the locking screw without galling. We document runout on the inspection report for every part, not just the first article.
Antenna mounts face constant wind-induced vibration. A tapped hole in bare aluminum will strip after repeated assembly cycles. We offer two solutions. First, we cut threads to 2B class per ASME B1.13M, with a thread depth of 1.5x diameter. Second, for any hole that sees assembly more than five times, we install stainless steel helical inserts (e.g., 4-40 to 3/8-16) at no extra charge if specified on the drawing.

Standard machining leaves Ra 1.6µm. For sealing surfaces on RF gaskets, we offer a polished finish at Ra 0.4µm. For exterior brackets, we recommend hard anodizing to 50µm thickness (per MIL-A-8625 Type III), which gives a matte black or gray color and a surface hardness of 60 HRC equivalent. This is not cosmetic; it prevents galvanic corrosion between the aluminum bracket and stainless steel fasteners.
If you need a specific color (e.g., military green or white for solar reflection), we use a dye step after anodizing. We do not paint brackets because paint chips and hides cracks. Anodizing is the only finish we offer for aluminum. For stainless steel, we can passivate per ASTM A967 to remove free iron and improve corrosion resistance.
