Product details

This is a CNC machined HSK63A collet chuck with a drill bit holder, built for one job: holding your drill bit rigid enough to cut true holes on a CNC spindle. The concrete benefit is a measured runout of ≤0.003 mm at the nose, a hardness of HRC 58-62 on the gripping surfaces, and a standard lead time of 15 days from drawing approval to shipment. You get repeatable hole position and size, without the chatter that ruins tool life or the rework that eats your margin.

How the HSK63A Taper Locks Tighter Than a BT Holder

An HSK63A shank is hollow and uses a dual-face contact system — the taper and the flange both touch the spindle face. Our chuck is machined from a single billet of 20CrMnTi alloy steel. The taper is ground to a 1:10 angle with a tolerance of AT3, which means the contact area exceeds 90% of the theoretical surface. That stops the holder from pulling out under heavy drilling loads, even at 12,000 RPM. You will feel the difference in feed rate: typical customers run a 10 mm drill at 0.15 mm/rev with no vibration.

ER Collet Grip Precision: Why We Use ER32 Instead of a Solid Chuck

We use ER32 collets in this HSK63A holder because they give you a 1 mm gripping range per collet, so you can switch from a 6 mm drill to a 7 mm drill without changing the chuck body. The collet seat is ground to a 8° internal angle with a surface finish of Ra 0.4. The nut is hardened to HRC 48-52 and thread-ground to prevent galling. When you torque the nut to the spec we print on the body (e.g., 80 Nm for ER32), the collet compresses evenly, holding the drill shank with a radial clamping force of 15 kN.

Materials and Heat Treatment We Use

The main body starts as 20CrMnTi, carburized to a case depth of 0.8-1.2 mm, then hardened to HRC 58-62. The core stays tough at HRC 35-40 to absorb shock from interrupted cuts. The drill bit seat is precision bored and then honed to a diameter tolerance of H7. We nitride the bore surface to a micro-hardness of 700 HV, which gives a dry lubricity that prevents chip welding on the shank. No coating is applied to the taper — it is ground, not plated, to preserve the contact geometry.

Inspection Before Every Shipment

Each chuck is tested on a CMM (Zeiss Contura) for taper angle and concentricity. Runout is measured at the collet nose with a 0.0005 mm resolution dial indicator, and we record the value on a test report that ships with the unit. We also check the taper contact pattern using a blueing test on a master HSK63A spindle — we reject any unit with less than 85% contact. The drill bit holder is tested with a standard 10 mm HSS drill to verify that the chuck releases the bit without a stuck condition.

Balancing for High-Speed Drilling

We balance every HSK63A chuck to G2.5 at 15,000 RPM. That means the residual unbalance is less than 2.5 g·mm per kilogram of holder weight. For a typical 1.2 kg holder, that is a residual unbalance of 3 g·mm. If you run drills above 12,000 RPM, this prevents the harmonic vibration that causes oversized holes. For ultra-precise work, we offer an optional balance report showing the exact correction weight and angle — this adds 2 days to the lead time but costs nothing extra.

How to Order with Your Specific Drill Bit Diameter

We machine the drill bit seat to your exact shank diameter — standard is H7 tolerance, but we can hold H6 if you request it. Send us your drill bit shank diameter (e.g., 10.00 mm), overall chuck length (standard is 100 mm, we can do 75-150 mm), and whether you need a through-coolant hole (standard is a 5 mm center hole). We will confirm the drawing within 24 hours. For non-standard shank sizes (e.g., 9.8 mm), we produce the collet pocket custom-ground to that dimension — no extra tooling fee for quantities above 10 pieces.

Is there a minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

No MOQ — we accept a single piece for evaluation, and the price per piece drops by roughly 20% at quantities of 20 or more.

Can you customize the chuck for a specific drill bit shank?

Yes, we machine the collet seat or the drill bit bore to your exact diameter (H6 or H7 tolerance) and can add a through-coolant hole or a custom flange pattern on request.

How do you ensure the runout stays at 0.003 mm after shipping?

We hand-inspect each unit after final cleaning and pack it in a foam-lined case; the test report includes the runout value measured before packing, and we guarantee it under normal handling.

What is your lead time for a custom HSK63A collet chuck?

Standard 15 days for a single piece, 20 days for quantities above 50, and we offer a 7-day express option for urgent orders at a 15% surcharge.
