This is a Cnc Machined Auto Lathe 46 Type Triangle Bore Spring Collet built for high-speed Swiss-type and sliding-headstock lathes. You get consistent 0.005 mm TIR (total indicated runout) across the full clamping range, with a hardness of 58–60 HRC for extended service life. Lead time is 10–15 working days for standard sizes, and we ship from our Dongguan factory with a 99.2% on-time delivery record over the last 24 months.
The triangle bore shape is not decorative. It concentrates clamping force on three contact points, not the full circumference. This reduces radial stress on thin-walled parts like brass valve stems or aluminum sensor housings by up to 30% compared to round bores. You can hold parts with wall thickness as low as 0.8 mm without ovality. The 46 Type designation matches the Auto Lathe 46 series spindle nose, so you get a direct bolt-on fit without adapter rings.
We start with either 20CrMnTi (case-hardening steel) or 65Mn (spring steel), depending on your clamping frequency. 20CrMnTi is carburized to a depth of 0.5–0.8 mm, then hardened and tempered to 58–60 HRC. 65Mn is oil-quenched and tempered for high elastic recovery. Slots are wire-cut after heat treatment, never before. This avoids decarburization on the slot edges, which is where most cheap collets crack. Surface finish on the bore and taper is Ra 0.2 µm, ground and honed in the same setup.
We measure runout at the nose, 10 mm from the collet face, and at the back of the bore. Every unit is tested three times with a calibrated test bar. The average of those three readings is stamped on the collet body. If a collet exceeds 0.005 mm TIR, it goes to scrap, not to you. For reference, standard DIN 6499 collets often spec 0.015 mm. Our process is tighter because we grind the taper and bore in a single chucking, eliminating the error from re-fixturing.

Each collet goes through a 5-point inspection protocol. First, we verify the taper angle with a sine bar and dial indicator – tolerance is ±0.002° . Second, we check bore diameter with a bore gauge calibrated to NIST standards. Third, we measure runout on a test arbor at two positions. Fourth, we test hardness on a Rockwell C scale, taking readings at 120° intervals around the circumference. Fifth, we visually inspect all slots under 10x magnification for burrs or micro-cracks. A signed inspection report with your PO number is included in every shipment.
Most collet failures come from slot fatigue – the metal cracks at the slot root after thousands of cycles. We avoid this by using a larger slot root radius (0.3 mm instead of the typical 0.1 mm) and by shot-peening the slot area after wire-cutting. Taper wear is the second killer. We grind the taper with a CBN wheel and then lap it against a matched master taper. This gives you a contact area of at least 85% of the taper surface, which distributes clamping force evenly and prevents localized galling.
For soft materials like aluminum or brass, use the 65Mn version – it has more elastic give and won't mark the surface. For hardened steels or titanium, use 20CrMnTi – the harder surface resists embedding of chips. If you're cutting parts with a length-to-diameter ratio over 3:1, order the collet with a back-stop bore (we can add a stepped counterbore at no extra cost). This prevents push-back during drilling. For thin-walled tubes under 1 mm wall thickness, we recommend reducing clamping force by 15% – the triangle geometry still holds securely because of the three-point contact.
We are a precision manufacturing factory in Dongguan, China, with 20 years of CNC machining, stamping, and spring-making experience. This collet is made on our own CNC lathes and grinders – we do not subcontract. That's why we can offer no MOQ. Order one collet for a prototype, test it on your machine, then scale up. For custom bore sizes (e.g., Ø10.3 mm), we only need a drawing or a sample. Custom taper angles (e.g., 20°) are also possible with a 3-day tooling lead time.
No MOQ – we accept single-piece orders for prototyping, and volume pricing starts at 50 pieces.
Yes, we can machine any bore size from Ø3 mm to Ø20 mm in 0.01 mm increments, and we can modify the taper angle to match non-standard spindles – just send your drawing or a sample.
We use a 5-point inspection protocol (taper angle, bore size, runout, hardness, slot integrity) and include a signed inspection report with every shipment, even for single-piece orders.
Standard sizes ship in 10–15 working days; custom bore sizes take 12–18 working days; rush orders (5 days) are available at a 20% surcharge.
Before you spec a collet, check our CNC cutting tool selection guide to understand how collet grip force interacts with tool geometry. And if you're concerned about dimensional tolerances on the collet itself, our CNC machining tolerances guide explains what ±0.005 mm means in practice for your assembly.
